In the Mirren movie, a family of teenage heroes led by Billy Bateson/Shazam battle the Daughters of Atlas. A sequel to Shazam! Development began shortly after the film's release in April 2019, with Gaddon returning as writer. Sandberg and Levy (Shazam) were also slated to return by that December.
The title and the rest of the returning cast were confirmed in August 2020, including Asher as Billy Bateson. Ziegler, Mirren and Leo were cast as the daughters of Atlas in early 2021. Filming began this May in Atlanta, Georgia and concluded in August.

Filming
Principal photography began on May 26, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia, with Gyula Pados serving as cinematographer. The film's production was delayed from mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June, Sandberg revealed that Curry was also portraying Mary's adult superhero appearance in the film, with Curry's hair and makeup adjusted for the superhero version in place of Borth. A month later, set photos revealed that Jamon Honsu would reprise his role as the magician Shazam. Filming was completed on 31 August 2021.
Release Date
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 21, 2022 by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was originally scheduled for release on April 1, 2022, before it was pushed back to November 4, 2022, and then to June. 2, 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was then moved to December 16, 2022, as it was slated for an earlier release than other DC films delayed by the pandemic. This date was previously given to Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. The April 2022 release date was pushed back five days to December 21.
